Juicy Couture.. Trendy or Trashy?

Hey guys sorry its been a while since my last post I have been busy working on my new T-shirt line that will be out later this year!

Trashy?

So I have a few posts to catch up on, but the first one I want to discuss is Juicy.... Now I must say that when I was in 8th grade I was desperate for a cool Juicy, Velour gym/pajama concoction. These days when I see people wear the whole thing together I get quite a sick feeling. There is just something about that material that kind of makes me queasy.

One of the the worst cases of Juicy I have ever seen was when my brother and I were on a flight to Tokyo. We ended up being on the same flight as Jon Bon Jovi! We found ourselves chatting to him, (since I'm a singer), and he offered us tickets to his concert! Now most of you would think this was pretty cool but all I can remember of him was his forest green, tight, velour, flared juicy tracksuit (similar to the one below but Much tighter!). It was Not a good look.

Another of the Juicy failures was of course involving our beloved fashion disaster, Britney (bless her). For her wedding to K-Fed, Brit Brit had all wedding party dress up in Barbie Pink Juicy ensembles.

Besides the sweats, they also have some fairly questionable velour handbags and pastel colored day wear such as this Striped Keyhole Romper.

Trendy?

Although I have pretty much just torn the brand apart (sorry Juicy!) I did actually scour through the site and stores and find a few winners! First of all this Lurex Straw Daydreamer bag is super cute and I would take this anywhere.

I also discovered this trendy Smoked Utility Romper, that can be a great day to night outfit. Team it up with some flats or wedges and beads in the day, then throw on some stilettos and big earrings for night.

There is also the fact that many of you may totally disagree with my dislike of the velour outfit.. I mean it is worn by hundreds of celebrities so it must have some kind of appeal!

This time though, in my opinion, looking at the overall picture Im going to say its more trashy than trendy!

I would love to to know what you think.

Juicy Couture- Trendy or Trashy???

Holy Flowers!!!

Now I know its Spring and everyone associates Spring with flowers and butterflies, but in the past few weeks the amount of floral I have seen is making me want it to be winter.

I am in no way against floral, its femine, pretty and can occasionally look quite rocker chic and edgy (depending on pattern and color). The thing I'm not too keen on though is the floral mixed with the pastels. This just reminds me of what I used to wear when I was 8 0r 9. When worn alone this look can look young and silly, but if you choose to be clever and team it with something funky you may have a winning outfit.
For expample these items below are cute, but a bit dull and childish. If you paired them with say a brown chunky belt and brown leather jacket with the dress on the left (depending on weather:), and some high waisted army green or khaki shorts for the top on the right, you would quickly go from too girly to super trendy.

There are however some absolute NO's when it comes to floral.... The two pictures below are ultimate floral failures to me. The shirt has way to many ruffles and the dress is just all wrong, with the weird cut and the white collar. Stay away from these looks!!!

Lets take a quick look at the bolder, edgier floral looks..... I love the dress on the right because of the fitted shape and the colors are bright and stand out against the black. This could simply be worn with just some chunky bracelets, and simple drop earrings. The dress on the right is a quirky and bold spring/summer dress that could be worn out in the day or at night with a thick black belt and some fabulous heels. Put your hair up and use a cute hairband for one similar to the red one.

Let me know how you guys feel about floral... Do you own any? have you just purchased some?
or is it not on your shopping list!

Also do you agree with what I picked or not?!

Can Sports Apparel be trendy?

This past weekend my boyfriend was on a mission to buy the new Reebok Zig Tech's. When we finally found them I looked at him with disgust, and at the shoes in disgust. I mean could they be any uglier! He went through them all trying on every color and luckily settled on the least absurd pair. After an hour of explaining to me why they are
so great, I totally understood why he wanted them, but is there really a good reason why they are so goofy looking???!!!

So I started looking around at the other tennis shoes in the stores and noticed that they have come out with some pretty funky stuff lately! Nike for example had multiple neon colored shoes which I actually kind of liked. New Balance has just bought out a new Graffiti inspired shoe which is really a love or hate thing (still haven't decided yet). I actually have a pair of bright pink/red Adidas which I love, yet when I wear them I see people give me funny looks!

So can these be worn as a fashion statement and not just for practical fitness reasons?

Well here's my opinion.... If you want to look cool and feel good whilst exercising I say go for it, the brighter the better, but if you want to throw sneakers on in the daytime to go about town, I say no. This is directed especially to the guys who think its OK to wear their big, white tennis shoes everywhere, even with their nice shorts and jeans... Major Fashion Failure guys!!!

You can still stick to your favorite sports brands just get yourself some similar to the ones below for regular day use....

Do you get the idea?? If you boys want opinions on shoes to buy please post a comment with a pic and I will let you know what I think!

Aldo has currently got some trendy, decently priced men's shoes so go have a look and save those trainers for sweating!

Now shoes is one thing but what do you guys think about wearing exercise gear around all day?

Note: (If you are a trainer or teach exercise all day this does not include you!)

I often see girls and guys walking around the city in mesh sports shorts, running leggings and full on Juicy Couture-esque ensembles (ala Britney Spears). This happens everywhere I have lived and its hard to avoid. I agree that if your just popping to the store or gas station its OK to throw on your trackies, but if your heading out to lunch etc. I think this look is sloppy and almost insulting. My reason being is it makes you look like you have made no effort, and that you feel you don't need to make effort. In my opinion people dress well because it makes them feel better about themselves. So why lower your self esteem by looking like you just rolled out of bed or off the treadmill?!

<span class= <span class= <span class=

So what do you guys think? IS it OK to wear your gym stuff as your daily attire or should it be kept for the gym?

Let me know what you think!

PS: Dear Paris Hilton, adding cool, hot pink sunglasses to your outfit still does not make it OK.

Bags of Money

Hey guys!!! I thought that today we could talk about my other obsession... what are the two must important accessories; shoes and.... BAGS!

I love bags, all kinds; clutches, over the shoulder, casual, evening, quirky.. you name it. Now as Im sure most of you know these babies do not come cheap. It is true that I do still have a Wet Seal bag from like 5 years ago, but realistically if you want a long lasting bag you have to pay big money. The great thing about the bag is that almost anything goes; any shape, any color, any print really, it's all about what kind of outfit you partner it up with.

I got in trouble numerous times today in designer stores snapping photos of $2000 bags (didn't know that was illegal!). I like to take pictures so that when I miraculously do have that insane amount of money to spare I can remember who has the best stuff. Here are a few goodies....

Dream Bag # 1.

This hottie is one of the new Burberry bags. I don't actually usually like their stuff that much but lately they have been mixing their preppy stripes and checks with awesome silvers, golds and studs which are really funking them up.

Dream Bag # 2!
I caught this luscious, green Gucci bag in their window. Its the perfect size for a day bag and it will brighten up any outfit. One of my favourite color combinations is purple and green so if your lucky enough to find a similar bag to this one ( or this one) match it with a purple top, shoes, or purple skinny jeans.

Dream Bag # 3
Great News!!! This navy Guess bag is in the low hundreds not the thousands, so my dream could come true! I used to hate navy as it was our school color but now I love it. Especially as nail polish and for a bag or scarf!

My favourite bag of the moment (that I actually own!)....

So my boyfriend and I stumbled upon this new bag line called Marble Ink. I really can't find much about them on the internet but I saw this Cobalt bag and had to have it. It was S$289 (app. US $220) but was totally worth it as I currently use it everyday! Everyone always stops me and asks me where its from, so Marble Ink designer if you read this please give us more info!!!!!

The bag of the season in my opinion is the red satchel. It was on almost every runway for Spring/Summer 11 and I personally think its awesome. I picked up a $30 one at Isetan department store last month for my friends photo shoot. Its super trendy and easy to carry.

What's your bag of the moment?? Also has anyone see a cute, affordable dark pink bag with studs anywhere?

XOXO

Shoes are a few of my favorite things...

My obsession with shoes began when I was 6 years old and desperately wanted the buckled, black patent shoes that the cool girls had. Since then the joy that a beautiful pair of heels can bring me is..... well, a bit ridiculous really. I walk into a shoe store and my eyes zoom around the room picking up on anything studded, sparkly or unique. I love the way a woman's foot looks in a good pair of shoes. Heels can reinvent any person or outfit. They can make a dowdy skirt and top look like a sophisticated outfit, or jazz up denim so you can cruise over to the bar
in style and comfort. I know have about 60 pairs but its growing each month!

There are currently some gorgeous shoes in stores around here, I took some photos (whilst drooling) on my little outing today....

(The picture above is meant to showcase the shoes on the top shelf, not the bottom!)

Of course, I completely understand that with the beauty of the dazzling heel comes a great deal of difficulty in walking distances, and of course the dreaded foot pain. I don't know about you guys but when I have worn uncomfortable heels on a night out before, I was in so much pain I actually thought my feet would bleed. I remember eventually just giving in and ripping them off in the middle of the club.... not so classy...

So how do we wear our precious shoes out without worrying if we are going to topple over, sprain an ankle, or cry in agony. The answer is....we are not!! Fashion is painful and for me the best thing to do is to first wear a new pair for an hour at a time until your feet are comfortable.
These are a few of my favs from my wardrobe...

These cute, suede ankle boots go perfectly with short skirts, skinny jeans, or shorts. They are just the right height for me and look super cute.

These studded clogs with straps make your legs look a lot slimmer and are super comfortable because of the platform. They are perfect for day or night.

Then there are the heels I love but can't always wear. I bought both of these for photos shoots and they only get worn when I feel I can balance in them!

Don't forget that although I have gone on about how awesome heels are, flat shoes and boots can also make you look trendy and sexy. My two favorite pairs of flats at the moment are my brogues and my gladiator sandals. Both great with shorts for the summer.

Let me know what your favorite shoes are and what you think about style over comfort???

PS
Since I'm a songwriter I thought I would write a shoe song for you guys... :)

Black studded heels, brown clogs, and kittens,
White leather straps, and gold patent glistens
brown suede boots all wrapped round with string
Shoes are a few of my favorite things
When my heel aches, and my toes sting and my arch hurts bad
I simply remember how hot my feet look and then I don't feel so sad.

hahaha

Till next time.... XOXO

A Singapore Affair

As I am sure you noticed from my previous blog I am currently based in Singapore, an island that is covered mostly by a modern city. There is a Gucci on every corner of downtown, hundreds of eclectically designed shopping malls and lots of bargains! AKA: a shopping paradise.

On this island you can find pretty much any store you would ever want from US brands to all the popular European brands, and definitely any high end label. With all the shopping mania this modern city has to offer you would expect people to be super trendy and unique, yet I think there are lessons to be learned.
In general, people in Singapore tend to under-accessorize compared to most other cities I have been to. They like to play it safe with jeans and tees for casual wear and simple nude dresses and pumps for work/evening. Now don't get me wrong; I see some drop dead gorgeous girlies strutting their stuff and decked out from head to toe, but in general a bit more needs to be done to compete with the other trend setting urban areas in the world.

Below... Typical day wear: T shirt, jeans, shorts. (sorry had to be from the back so I don't get in trouble:)

On my research today I noticed that part of the problem was that they didn't have much to work from. For example, I used to work in clothing stores and our mannequins were always stylish, as a lot of customers would come in and ask for
the exact outfit they saw on them. Today when I stepped in a Forever 21 I saw this mess on a mannequin... :(

There is some kind of grey leopard print skirt hanging out the bottom and a random giant gap in the middle... The whole thing was just wrong. So I'm thinking, is this really what they're supposed to look at for style ideas? Here's the kind of stuff I found on the other store's mannequins, including Mango and other well known brands.

The one below left is wearing a fishnet stocking thing around her neck... can we say.. fail.

Despite my negative opinions on the messy mannequins there were some fantastic items in Pull and Bear and Bershka. I am totally into all the ranch/folk wear there is to offer this spring. If its done right with a satchel and a cute summery headband, this look can go a long way. Just remember, don't over-do it and stick to just a few accessories that will make the outfit dazzle. For example get some khaki shorts, tuck in a funky cream t shirt like the one in the left center of the picture, put a cute red elastic headband in your hair and throw a brown, red, or orange satchel over your shoulder. Add some ankle boots and it's super chic yet super simple.

I feel that with a bit more guidance and a few role models, Singapore has the potential to kick some serious ass in the fashion world...

What's the fashion like in your city??? I would love some input from other parts of the world! Till tomorrow peace out, sweet fashion dreams.

Welcome!!!

Hey guys welcome to my page!!! I am writing this blog so I can chat with you guys about fashion and share my fashion loves and hates with you. I am currently back in Singapore after a crazy weekend in Bali for my birthday. For those of you that don't know Bali is a pretty awesome, beach filled island with a lot of partying and a lot of tiny outfits!!

My friends and I spent a lot of time people watching and noticed that 90% of the Australian girls we saw there were dressed in what my boyfriend calls the 'Kelly Kapowski's" from the Saved by the Bell Years. I must say I'm not too keen on the look since I have an ass but if your
lucky enough to be super model skinny it could work. Just make sure your bum cheeks aren't hanging out:)

Besides those the EXTREME trend of the beach crowd right now is skinny belts
that are looped through at the front. Now when I first saw this look I though, wow that looks super cute.... but after seeing thousands of them my desire kind of dissipated. If you don't mind having what everyone else does they are a fab accessory. They can totally separate an outfit and give the cinch you need to create a better shape.

P.S. I have just been shopping at Forever 21 and bought some super cute shoes....What do you guys think?
